HOLISTIC HEALTH CARE
general health
“It is health that is the real wealth, and not pieces of gold and silver.” – Mahatma Gandhi
Good health is the ultimate goal of our treatment. Despite the nature of your health concern or diagnosis, improving your overall health will only bring you benefits.
Our approach is preventative so while we will treat a condition and symptoms, our underlying approach is holistic and will address contributing factors including diet, lifestyle, exercise, and environmental aspects.
An Investigative Lens
In understanding your general health, we will analyse your recent investigations. This may include general blood work, PCR stool testing, coeliac screening, nutritional testing (e.g. iron studies, vitamin D etc.), hormone profiles, insulin and glucose profile and thyroid studies, as well as the results of imaging and other diagnostic tests. Furthermore, we work alongside your specialist practitioners e.g. fertility specialist, gynecologist, gastroenterologist and endocrinologist. As holistic practitioners, we utilise specialist functional testing where indicated such as food intolerance testing, comprehensive stool analysis, SIBO testing, DUTCH hormone testing and hair mineral analysis. These allow us to clearly diagnose the root of your health challenges and devise a truly targeted treatment plan for you.
Here are some of the health conditions that we commonly see in our practice:
Digestive disorders
The gut barrier is the underlying determinant of good health. The gastrointestinal tract and its microbiota (bacteria) provides a strong barrier to the outside world. Disorders are increasingly common and range from reflux, heartburn, bloating, leaky gut, food intolerances & sensitivities, Coeliac disease to irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
Thyroid disorders
The thyroid plays an important role in the regulation of your body’s metabolic rate. Disorders of the thyroid are becoming increasingly common from diagnosed autoimmune thyroid conditions such as Hashimotos & Graves’ disease to simply a sluggish thyroid or overactive thyroid
Menstrual Issues
The menstrual cycle is a reflection of general health – it is like a woman’s monthly report card on how you lived your life that month. Menstrual cycle issues including premenstrual syndrome (PMS), pain, flow issues (heavy periods or too light), absence of periods, coming off the hormonal contraceptive pill.
Life stages for both men and women
Our hormones play an important role in the life stages. For women, there is the transition from monthly menstrual cycling to perimenopause and onto menopause. Andropause is a lesser-known phenomenon for men.
Mental health disorders
Mental health disorders are a group of illnesses that may impact on a person’s thoughts, perceptions, feelings and behaviours. These may include anxiety disorders, depression, behavioural and emotional disorders in children and eating disorders. The strong connection between nutrition and mental health is only starting to get the attention it deserves.
Sleep disorders
This is one of the least understood contributors to good health. We all need 7-9 hours of sleep every night. It is not something you can bank or catch up on later. As a preventer of dementia, it is something we should practice every night.
Weight management
A healthy weight is an important element of good health. How much you eat is important, but the quality of the diet is fundamental to maintaining a healthy weight or losing weight. By adopting healthy eating habits, you and your family will benefit for life.
Skin issues
The skin barrier is one of the body’s first lines of protection against environmental insults. Disruption of this barrier can result in eczema, dermatitis, acne, rosacea. Nutritional status and gut health are integral in the maintenance of healthy skin.
Allergies
Itchy eyes, excessive sneezing, mucus build-up, and congestion are some of the symptoms experienced by allergy sufferers. All allergies whether they are triggered by environmental factors, seasonal pollens, or foods can be relieved by changing your eating habits. In some cases, food intolerances or sensitivities may be the issue instead. These cause a myriad of symptoms ranging from nausea, stomach pain, bloating to headaches and irritability.
The Immune System
The immune system is a complex system, with a simple mission: to seek and kill invaders. The immune system can be overactive or underactive and sometimes there can be an immune response without any threat as in asthma, allergies and autoimmune disorders such as Hashimoto’s disease, Graves’ disease. We also treat acute conditions such as the common cold or flu and boost the immune system to reduce susceptibility to viruses as well as support recovery in post-viral fatigue.
We believe that improving your health is one of the best investments that you can make in life.
